Arippa


Located 52 km northeast of Thiruvananthapuram city along the Thiruvananthapuram-Shencottai State Highway, Arippa has about l,000 hectares of forest plantation in a compact area. Wooded highlands of the Western Ghats surround this belt, offering a calm and peaceful destination for tourists amidst the forest environment. Arippa is known for its diverse species of birds and wildlife and is a renowned haunt for bird watchers.

Ecotourism Activities
The ecotourism packages here include short treks, bird/wildlife watching, visit to the nearby tribal settlement, outdoor camping in jungle camps etc. The programmes are operated through the tribal settlement, with tribals as guides.

In and Around
The Ammayambalam Pacha, Myristica Swamp, the tribal settlements, Kulathupuzha Temple etc. are some interesting attractions of the area.

Accommodation

Jyothismathy, the beautiful KFDC Inspection Bungalow situated atop a small hill with a picturesque view of the area, is close to the Thiruvananthapuram-Shencottai Road. Constructed during 1981 with three double rooms, this bungalow is an excellent retreat for serious nature lovers, bird watchers and tourists. It also serves as a perfect halting place for visitors en route to ecotourism centres like Palode, Konni, Thenmala, Kallar etc.
