5. Siruvani (Palaghat)

(46 km north of Mannarkad and 48 km from Palakkad)The reservoir at Siruvani was built for Tamil Nadu by the Kerala Government to meet the drinking water requirements of Coimbatore. The gateways on either side of the road across the dam are typical of the Kerala and Tamil architectural styles. Siruvani is also home to certain tribals like the Mudugars and Irulars. Last Year, I went to Palakkad with some friends (Raheesh, Anil, & Firoz) to meet a friend of my friend Firoz. His wedding had fixed, so we had a full day to spend there. Our plan was to visit Siruvani Dam. We went there and enjoy a lot, but couldn’t go past the forest department check post as we did not have a sanction letter from the district forest officer. So we just enjoyed our ride.
